If you peek down the little hole in the Camera
IC with a microscope you can actually see part of the CCD. We
took the cover off the IC with a sharp knife to reveal the whole
chip. The chip is covered in a layer of clear laquer (because
it would be exposed to the elements if not). The white spots
seen on the chip are not dust but blemishes in this laquer. I
hope the blemishes are from my opening of the IC but my suspicion
is they are not. The leftmost quadrant is the actual eye of the chip consisting of about 18 * 18 CCD cells. The rest is the controlling circuitry. |
