De Apple StyleWriter 4500 is eigenlijk een HP printer (HP DeskJet 690c) die HP voor Apple heeft geproduceerd. Vandaar dat er ook HP inktcartridges in gaan.

Drivers

Apple vond het niet nodig om drives voor deze printer te maken voor gebruik onder Mac OS 9. In een TIL artikel geven zij iets meer informatie.

Op Macintouch (www.macintouch.com) heeft wat meer uitleg gestaan over dit fenomeen:

According to Apple TIL article 60537 the current drivers for the StyleWriter 4000 Series color printers are not compatible with Mac OS 9, the installer of which thus deletes existing Color StyleWriter 4000 drivers.

Meanwhile, James Denton was able to use his Apple StyleWriter 4100 under Mac OS 9 by using version 6.0.4 of the HP DeskWriter/Jet 500 Series driver-James notes that one should select "Deskwriter 560 C" when installing for the best results. Jon Adler used the same to drive his StyleWriter 4500, the result: it works, "but only with four color inks. The six color (PhotoGrade) inks won't work." Another reader had better success choosing the 540 driver: "I used your work around tip by using the HP 560C drivers but when I try to print in color or when I try to print templates in Adobe Photoshop, it would either be crooked or the colors would just be a bunch of gibberish. After going through the drivers, I've found that the HP 540 drivers work better with the ColorStyleWriter 4100. All the problems I described above went away when I used the HP 540 drivers." Teresa Jones notes that this fix only works when Background Printing is turned off.
